1. Challenge
A survey by Belgium's leading soccer magazine revealed widespread homophobia among Belgian first division players. 67,8% of the interviewed players said there is no room for gay players. The Belgian Gay and Lesbian federation had to react.
2. Solution
We developed an overlayer banner that gave some of the biggest Belgium sites the chance to block ‘symbolically’ all homophobia football players.
In the overlayer banner we asked people if they are playing football in the 1ste division. If they clicked ‘yes’, they were refused to enter the site. And that’s as absurd as the fact that gay people are not welcome to play for a first division team.
If they clicked ‘no’, they saw the following message: “It would be really absurd, not letting you visit this site. As absurd as the fact that 7 out of 10 first division players don’t want to have a gay footballer in their team.”
Everyone could also download the overlayer banner and place it on their own site or blog. .
3. RESULTS
75 sites and blogs downloaded the overlayer and published it on their homepage. 102.460 people clicked on the overlayer.
